WNEU signs transfer agreement with BG

WNEU and BG sign transfer agreement for health sciences

Western New England University (WNEU) signed an articulation agreement with Berkshire Community College (BG) to benefit students who earn an associate’s degree in Health Sciences, Pre-Professional Transfer Option at BG and wish to continue their studies at WNEU’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This signing took place on Monday, June 3, at 1:00 p.m. in the Connector at BG’s main campus in Pittsfield.

The articulation will allow students who have completed their Associate in Science degree at BG, and who have met WNEU admissions requirements, to enter their Pharmacy program.  This opportunity is generously supported by WNEU who will be offering accepted BG students $15,000 per year for two years of their program.

Through this coordinated program of study at both institutions, students may obtain an associate’s degree issued by BG and a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy studies and a doctor of pharmacy degree issued by WNEU.

Dr. Jennifer Berne, VP of Academic Affairs at BG and Dr. Evan T. Robinson, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at WNEU, signed the agreement Monday, June 3 in the BG Connector.

Evan T. Robinson, PhD, RPh, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at WNEU, said he is excited that WNEU will offer an opportunity for BG students to continue their studies at the University.

“It is important to provide as many opportunities and pathways as possible for students to pursue their academic and career aspirations.  Agreements such as this can facilitate just that.”

Robinson also noted that “This also offers an opportunity for individuals with western Massachusetts ties to study, and hopefully practice, where they live.”

BG President Ellen Kennedy agreed, noting the many articulation agreements BG and WNEU share:

“Western New England is an important partner in helping to guarantee our students graduate from BG and are afforded junior level status to continue their studies. This agreement reinforces that, as well as out agreements with WNEU for Criminal Justice, Engineering, Human Services, Biological Science, and Business Administration. ”

The Pre-Professional Transfer Option at BG is designed for students who are tracking toward a career in rapidly expanding professional healthcare fields. BG students in this program are expected to transfer to a 4-year institution to complete prerequisite curriculum for potential admission into programs such as (but not limited to): Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician’s Assistant Studies, Pharmacy, Chiropractic Medicine, Health Science Research, etc.
